‘Buy and hold’, or actively trade? Let’s look at the merits of each style and we’ll advise on which method to choose.
One of the questions we are often asked at The Rivkin Report is whether people should adopt the more traditional approach of ‘buy and hold’ for the long term or ‘trade’ more aggressively with a shorter time frame.
The answer is actually quite simple: whatever makes the most money.
Instead, people often classify themselves based on what lifestyle they want to live. Day trading, for example, appeals to people looking for an adrenaline rush and a quick result. Investing in blue chip companies paying large dividends appeals to people who don’t want the hassle of closely monitoring a share portfolio.
