From The Editor. Issue 18: Profiting from Volatility
It’s funny how accidents seem to happen when we least expect it. You’re driving your car, not really paying attention, probably changing the radio station or on the phone and then... bang!
The stock market works in the same way. Demand is up, earnings are up, everything is rosy, and share prices are rising. Everything is going well. My portfolio is increasing 1% per week, so why would I sell? It’s just all too easy. And then all of a sudden, the left field events start coming in. Earnings forecasts are missed, another country discovers it can’t pay its bills, governments change the rules, and Armageddon stories are once again dusted off and wheeled back out by the media.
It’s all too hard and I’m just going to get out whenever I can. I will definitely jump out if prices rise a little. I can’t stand seeing prices jump all over the place. The market is for gamblers. I’m out. What was I thinking!
